PCOA campgrounds have numbered campsites that have a picnic table, parking space, and space for a tent, trailer or motor home; restroom and shower facilities must be available on a 24 hour basis, the campground must be managed in a courteous helpful manner, charges for services must be prominently posted and a reasonable curfew must be enforced.
PCOA publishes an annual campground directory, which divides the state into six regions: Northwest, Southwest, North Central, South Central, Northeast and Southeast. Within each region, campgrounds, and their amenities and nearby attractions are listed. Links to the tourist promotion agencies and visitor bureaus are available as well as individual attractions. The directory also provides a short description of each region and what it has to offer. Directories are available as a pdf download, as an interactive directory or a hard copy can be mailed via a request form. In addition, an e-newsletter is mailed six times a year.
The website, www.pacamping.com, is a wealth of information. The “Find A Campground” function has four ways for viewers to select campgrounds. Search by region, name, an interactive map or an advanced search including very specific criteria. In season, campgrounds will make special offers or upload online coupons for campers to print and redeem. PCOA gift certificates make great gifts and can be purchased in $50 increments to be redeemed at any member campground. New photos for the online “Where in Pennsylvania” contest are updated quarterly and viewers can submit their answers. Clues are given about each photo up until the deadline. Winners will be selected from all correct answers and one consolation prize is also drawn. Winners receive a $50 gift certificate to be used at any PCOA campground.
